About Romeo and Juliet 1921

Romeo and Juliet 1921 is set in New York City in the golden age of flappers and gangsters, bootlegging, and Prohibition. Two households, both alike in dignity (if not pizazz!), compete to see whether liquor and lasciviousness or teetotaling and temperance will rule the (black and white) streets of uptown Verona. Oh, and there's a star-crossed romance too!

Come for the drama, stay for the audience interaction! During our 3 days of live shows, we will have Q&A time between actors and audience during intermission and after the show. Want to know what Juliet was thinking when she agreed to marry Romeo after knowing her for 2 hours? Curious as to why Mercutio is such a ham? And where did Lord Capulet get that accent? Ask away! Be there, or exit pursued by a bear!

Old Library Theatre

Old Library Theatre (OLT), Fair Lawn Recreation Department’s resident theatre company, is a community theatre organization located in Bergen County, NJ. We want to acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of the Lenape, the indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands.

Old Library Theatre was started in 1967 in Fair Lawn by a handful of dreamers who wanted to make the joy of theatre performance available to everyone. The original theatre was on River Road, but the company relocated to the George Frey Center for Performing Arts in the Fair Lawn Community Center in 2006. Now in our 53rd season, we aim to continue the tradition of providing quality community entertainment at an affordable cost.
