About The Laramie Project

During the month of October 1998, Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old student at the University of Wyoming, was robbed, beaten, tortured, tied to a fence post far from town and left to die.  He was discovered 18 hours later and rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.

The hate crime attracted world wide attention on the town of Laramie.  The Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie shortly after this crime and interviewed many of the town's residents.  Over the course of almost two years, the members of Tectonic Theater Project interviewed over 200 people.  From these interviews arose this play, The Laramie Project.

20 years after this crime was committed, Wrangler Theater now performs this work.
