The students in the SDHS drama program receive training from fully-credentialed theater and music teachers, as well as additional instruction and coaching from well-schooled alumni of the program. The main difference between our theater group and others in the area is that our educational program, being a public school program, is COMPLETELY FREE for performers to participate in. This kind of experience could cost a pupil up to $500 or $600 in a local community or not-for-profit educational theater group.
SDHS Drama is a completely self-sufficient entity. We rely upon ticket sales, refreshment sales, fundraisers, and monetary donations to the drama club to purchase everything we need for our productions: Script rentals, performance rights, costumes, scenery, props, furniture, and more.
The production costs for most musicals are approximately as follows:
Script Rentals/Rights $5000+
Costumes (Rentals) $50-$100 Per Costume
Scenery/projections $1000-$5000
Properties/Furniture $500-$2000
