About Sylvia

Riverhead Faculty and Community Theatre will be holding auditions for A. R. Gurney's canine comedy "Sylvia" on Monday March 9 and Tuesday March 10 from 6-8 PM at the Riverhead Free Library, 330 Court Street (downstairs). ALL ROLES OPEN. Readings will be from the script.  The show will rehearse 2-3 evenings per week until the performance weekend, April 24-26. Perfs are Fri and Sat at 8; Sun mat at 2:30 at the Jamesport Meeting House, 1590 Main Rd in Jamesport. Any questions, email the director at [email protected]

 

Sylvia (Lead): F. No specific age. A dog with attitude. Must have good stage presence and be able to be both vulnerable and confrontational. The role requires getting down on hands and knees on occasion.

 

Greg (Lead): M. Must look old enough to be married for 22 years. Sylvia's new owner. Must be good at playing comedy. He's completely enamored of his new pet and clueless of how this is affecting the people around him, especially his wife.

 

Kate (Lead): F. Must look old enough to be married for 22 years. Greg's wife. She doesn't understand her husband's fondness for Sylvia, and her resentment builds as the play goes on.  

 

Tom (Supporting): M. Must look old enough to be married for at least a few years. A guy's guy that Greg meets at the dog park.

 

Phyllis (Supporting): F. Age negotiable. Kate's friend who gets drawn into the conflict between Kate and Greg over Sylvia.

 

Leslie (Supporting): M or F. Written as gender ambiguous. A marriage counselorthat Kate goes to for help.
