Kenneth Kurtz (Ebenezar Scrooge)
Kenneth Kurtz is a Professor Emeritus of the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Miami, Florida, where for over forty years he taught Theatre history, Scenic and Lighting Design, Scene Painting and the History of Decor. Some of his long ago students include Ralph Wakefield, Nancy Jones, and Christopher Chisholm. Imagine that! Sam Chesser (Narrator/Undertaker)
Sam has participated in several Pelican Playhouse shows, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, You Can't Take It With You, and Seuss Odyssey. Favorite roles include Long John Silver, Nick Tickle, and the Cowardly Lion. Sam is also the founder and director of Little Revolt theater where he has adapted multiple Shakespeare plays, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and James and the Giant Peach. Sam most recently directed the Pelican Playhouse production of Peter Pan the British Musical.
Jorge Calil (Bob Cratchit/Mr. Fezziwig)
Born, raised, & prays to die ;) in beautiful Miami Springs! Blessed to be married to his gorgeous high school sweet heart & love of his life, Kimberly & Dad to his precious angels, Hannah Faith & Emma Hope. From his onstage debut as Alonzo, opposite his wife, in Around the World in 8 Plays, to writing, directing, & acting with his 3 girls in The Ventriloquist (Parts 1-4, more coming soon...) & his tour de force playing ALL the Cinderella characters in, The Brother's Grimm, he can NEVER thank Ralph & Nancy enough for the wonderful memories!
Helyn Luisi-Mills (Charity Lady #1)
Helyn started her acting career as Papa Bear in Caracas, Venezuela when she was 5 years old. Since then she has performed with the Pelican Playhouse in Girls to the Rescue, Camp W., and Midsummer Night's Dream. She went on to major in costume design in college. She enjoys Coffee every day. She is now serving as astronaut firefighter princess in Madison WI living her best life with cousin Ursula, husband Peter and dog Marti
Ceclia Luisi-Kelley (Charity Lady #2)
Cecilia lives in Atlanta with the lucky Mr. Kelley, 2 daughters, puppy and the woman she inherited her accent from, Mama! A business degree helps her manage on-goings of multiple family members. Loves volunteering backstage set/props for kids’ dance studio, family & friends. In her spare time, she is close to her 20th year working at Home Depot, trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. Encouraged by Life!
Ken Shaw (Nephew Fred)
Ken Shaw has been acting since he figured out it was a great way to keep playing "make pretend" as a grown-up. In many plays and some movies, TV shows and commercials. He's not a doctor but he's played one on TV! And a Judge....and police officer...and scientist...and other interesting characters. Living in San Francisco since 1980, Ken is a West Coast kind of guy, and travels and does as much as possible to remind him he is still a child inside. One day he will have a nice place in Zambia everyone can visit!
Gregory Crosby (Jacob Marley)
Br. Gregory (a Franciscan Brother) lives in Miami Shores, works for Barry University & is very proud to be portraying Jacob Marley in his 2nd Zoom production. His acting rez: Hippodrome State Theatre: “Sir” in “Smell of the Grease Paint Roar of the Crowd”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Oklahoma” , “South Pacific” & “Oliver.” Broad Auditorium: “Lazar Wolf” in “ Fiddler on the Roof” & most recently, Mr. Mushik in “Little Shop of Horrors” At the Pelican Playhouse: “Huckleby in “The Fantastics He’s also an accomplished musician / vocalist who has been on concert tour in Rome, Paris & Ireland.
Tabitha Daisy (Ghost of Christmas Past)
Tabitha is excited to be performing alongside her castmates, in "A Christmas Carol.” Thrilled to share this timeless Christmas story, as The Ghost of Christmas Past. Tabitha premiered at the Pelican Theater singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, then went on to play Snow White in The Brothers Grimm, Nibs in the musical Peter Pan and Miranda in The Tempest, at Little Revolt Theater. Her most recent role, was a dual character portrayal in the Zoom production of "Virtual Fortunes for a $1," and was ‘an exciting fun new way to bring our show to our theater audience’.
Ethan Gomez (Young Scrooge)
Ethan is proud to be a part of A Christmas Carol. Ethan lives in Miami Springs with his family and attends Doral Charter Elementary School where he is in the 4th grade. Favorite subjects are Social Studies and Language Arts. Ethan’s first performance was in 2019 and he has participated in several Pelican shows since and hopes to be an actor when he grows up. Ethan loves playing the piano and tennis and is a Webelo Scout in the Cubscouts. Katie Belle Florio (Little Fan)
This production will mark her 6th show with the The Pelican Playhouse. Her 1st role as Liv from “Liv and Maddie” showed Katie the acting bug bit hard as she followed with roles in The Brothers Grim (Rapunzel), A Midnight Summer Night’s Dream (Moonshadow), Peter Pan (Pirate Slightly). Katie’s latest role, a Zoom production of Fortunes Told Virtually $1 where she played a snotty uptight teen named Emily, has prepared her well for this virtual performance of Scrooge’s sweet bighearted sister.
Kimberly Calil (Mrs. Cratchit/Mrs. Fezziwig)
Kim is the blessed mom of her two beautiful girls, Hannah Faith & Emma Hope and the proud wife of her talented hubby, Jorge. She was a huge fan of the Pelicans well before her 1st ever role as The Red Queen, opposite her daughter Hannah. She entertained all as The Pirate Queen, opposite her hubby in Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen, she was irresistible as a "Sexy" Chesser Cat, opposite her daughter Emma & who can forget her "naughty" portrayal of Crystal Allen in The Woman? She is forever grateful to Ralph & Nancy.
Tyler Reed (Prime of Life Scrooge)
Tyler began acting in middle school when he landed the role of Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes. A few years later he was tapped to play the Scarecrow in the Pelican Playhouse production of The Wizard of Oz and his love of acting truly took root. Acting highlights include A Funny Thing Happened on The Way To the Forum (Hero), The Trials of Robin Hood (Robin Hood), You Can’t Take It With You (Tony Kirby, Jr) and Peter Pan The British Musical (Smee). Tyler is thrilled to be reunited with Forum director Ken Kurtz and its lead actor Chiz Chisholm.
Ingrid Olson (Ebenezar's Fiance)
Ingrid’s first Pelican production was “Alice in Wonderland” where she reports that she “had so much fun with everyone that I decided to perform in many more plays”. Other productions include “The Servant of Two Masters”, “The Women”, “The Iliad, The Odyssey, and Greek Mythology”, “The (Almost) Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel”, and many others. Ingrid is excited to take on the world of Zoom theatre as Ebenezer’s fiancé in “A Christmas Carol”.
Chiz Chisholm (Ghost of Christmas Present)
“Chiz” is a classically trained award-winning actor, director, producer, writer & creative executive , making a career of excelling in all facets of the entertainment industry. He has appeared on the NY stage, Hollywood soundstages, repertory and regional theatres across the country and around the globe. Mr. Chisholm has performed in over 200 stage productions, feature films & television shows in his rich career. From Shakespeare to Shepard & Albee to Williams, Chiz has starred in classics, comedies, dramas and dozens of musicals over the years.
Emma Calil (Dolly Cratchit)
A proud Pelican Playhouse Puppeteer from the age of 5, Emma loves performing, drawing, & CATS! From her cameo appearance with big sis and dad in The Ventriloquist Part 2, Emma has performed in every Summer Recital since. Her first "real" play was The Hobbit where she played Kili. She was a Narrator & Candy Witch in Hey Diddle Diddle, Peasblossom in Midsummer Night's Dream, a native in Peter Pan the British Musical & was unforgettable in her first online production, Girls to the Rescue, as both Carla in Carla & The Greedy Merchant and Maria in Grandma Rosa's Bowl.
Hannah Calil (Martha Cratchit)
Born and raised in Miami & proud Pelican for a decade, since the age of 6! From Puppeteer to The Student in Suessodyseey, Fili in The Hobbit, Lil' Red in The Brother's Grimm Spectaculathon, Meghan in Girls to the Rescue & The Dummy in The Ventriloquist Tetralogy, which her dad Jorge wrote, directed, and her entire family preformed. Hannah never ceases to steal the show! “Acting has helped me become a more confident person and I’m not sure what I’d do without it. Thank you Ralph & Nancy for the wonderful memories. I can’t wait to make even more!
Raul Fernandez-Calienes (Tiny Tim)
His introduction to acting came in 2016 when he performed in Old Possum’s Practical Book of Cats & Friends with the Pelican Playhouse. When he was in kindergarten, he won 1st place in his school’s talent show, with his performance of Jabberwocky. Since then, he has 16 productions under his belt and he is not even 10 years old. Some of his favorites include Peter Pan-The British Musical, Shakespeare’s The Tempest and The Hobbit. He thanks Ralph Wakefield, his parents and above all God for all his blessings. He also enjoys tennis and music.
Geraldine Fernandez-Calienes (Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come)
An accountant originally from Jamaica, she moved to the US in 2001. She has always enjoyed live theatre, especially Jr Theatre, where she watched her younger cousins perform. In 2016, she introduced her 5 year old son to the Pelican Playhouse and supported him for 2 years before Ralph Wakefield convinced her to join her son on stage! Since then, mother and son have performed together 4 times, including her favorite, The Dead Parrot. In 2019, Ralph again encouraged her to widen her horizons to take on the role of Stage Manager in Peter Pan, The British Musical.
Sandy Saunders (Charwoman)
Currently living in Tallahassee, her acting debut was as Jesus in Godspell, performed at Miami Springs Presbyterian Church in 1996. Her next acting gig was as Dr. NewHeart in the play "Dr. NewHeart's Christmas Cure" performed at Lafayette Presbyterian Church in June 2000. The last performance was in the HBO 2008 movie "Recount", as a paid extra as a reporter in several scenes and also a spectator in the Florida Supreme Court scenes. She also appeared in several student productions with FSU's Film School.
Jennifer Graham (Laundress)
Jennifer joined the Pelican Playhouse in 2017-2018 after the uninvited “Irma” blew in The Hobbit where she debuted as Toni the Troll. In the 2018-2019 season she took on a Talking Fish in the Brothers Grimm and was Hippolyta Queen of the Amazons in Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the 2019-2020 season she Zoomed in as Lady Rowena and The Queen in Girls to the Rescue. In 2020, she played Barbiturates in Alice In Up and Down Land and The Red Queen from Alice In Wonderland. Jennifer is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s University. Jennifer’s most treasured role is Mother to Edward and Charlotte Bartlett.
Deborah Choates (Ragpicker)
My acting career started in 1973 when I decided to take a Drama class under Mr. Ralph Wakefield. I have worked on stage sporadically. In 1991, I played the part of Bessie Coleman’s mother for Dade County Aviation Department along with my daughter, Adrienne, who played Bessie Coleman. I worked at The Miami Way Theater in North Miami, Fl from 1991 until 1998. We had Amatuer Night at Miami Way every weekend for a year and a half and I had a chance to perform in skits and sing! Also, I did Extra work and Still Photography. I am a writer and my book is called Reborn At Forty and it is registered with the Library of Congress. So now I have come full circle. I am grateful for the opportunity!
Noah Gomez (Turkey Boy/Caroler)
Noah lives in Miami Springs and attends Doral Charter Elementary School. He is in the fifth grade, and his favorite subjects are Math and History. Noah first appeared on stage in the summer of 2020 in the Pelican Playhouse’s Tom and the New Boy opposite his younger brother. Noah is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing soccer and tennis and has attained the rank of Arrow of Light Scout in the Cubscouts. Noah would like to thank his family for their love and support as well as Pelican Playhouse Artistic Director, Ralph Wakefield, and the Pelican Playhouse family for allowing him to enjoy this valuable experience.
