About Insomniac Cybersociety: A Virtual Play for Teens

There’s nothing like a bunch of teens hanging out together in a virtual chat room to provide the perfect setting for a virtual play!

Looking for a way to cope with sleepless nights, Poppy creates the Insomniac Cybersociety as a safe, online place for awake but tired teens confined to their bedrooms to pass the long night hours of sleeplessness.  It’s almost like going to a slumber party every night, with lighthearted conversation between these virtual friends with fun, online pseudonyms such as Night Owl, Third Shift, Tryptophan, Sandman, and Shuteye.

Luckily, Poppy strictly enforces the rules to the private chat room:  no personal information, no talking about the time, and no consulting with one another about curing their insomnia.  New recruits, like Bunny Slippers, must pass an extensive screening by the group before being allowed to join.  But Poppy’s own diligence begins to fall victim to exhaustion, made worse by the fact that Poppy is not always aware when she falls asleep, so her conscious thoughts and her dreams fuse together to create strange realities and stranger dreams.  Luckily, the latest outsider who gained entry into the secret society cares about Poppy and wants to help.

With a completely gender-neutral, totally teenage cast, this virtual comedy has a depth that makes it particularly well-suited for middle or high school productions, teen theatre camps and classes, and virtual one-act competitions.

Caesar Rodney High School

The Stage Crew and Thespians of Caesar Rodney High School are considered by many in the community as the epitome of talent. The students involved in our theater program set it apart from other schools. We are a group of hard-working students who always place our full efforts into the activities of our Thespian Club. It is this dedication that helps elevate the status of our program in our community. When we put together a production or theater-related activity, everyone gets involved and many ideas are fused together to create an optimal plan of action for the activities.

There is a special bond which we all experience because of the togetherness of our group. We are a family; many in our group would say we are their only family. This familial bond helps us to produce superior results. There is a certain attention to detail that the commitment of our family creates. We make sure that every detail involved in our activities is up to par. Each meticulous detail must be perfect and this adherence to perfection allows our productions to achieve monumental status.

Another important factor towards our success is the type of adult leaders in our school. The teachers at Caesar Rodney are all looking out for the betterment of the student body and their continued commitment aids the Thespians in our goals. It is especially important to have strong teachers involved in the activities, and we are fortunate to have such teachers.
