Annslee Clay (Mary Poppins)
In the 60s Feminism was starting to take a bigger part in society, women no longer wanted the right to vote they wanted to broaden the definition of Feminism. Mary Poppins was adapted to film in the early 60s and was released 1964. Mary Poppins is the definition of feminism. She doesn’t play into people’s problems, she solves them... without help from a guy. Most female characters up to this point were depicted as helpless or perceived as un-educated. I am here to tell you that women can do it. I dedicate this performance to all the strong female characters and actresses that have paved the way for actresses today, you made it happen because you saw wrong in the world and went to fix it. I also dedicate this performance to my peers because your voice matters. Remember— anything can happen if you let it.
