Circus in Place came out of a collaborative brainstorm by a group of circus artists living in Vermont whose livelihoods were turned up side down during the global pandemic. We came together to build an outdoor, site specific, customized performance event. This is a video of that show as filmed on location in Brattleboro, Vermont in October, 2020. The show is available for tour booking for summer 2021.
Circus in Place is an outdoor walk through performance for all ages offered at host properties utilizing the natural landscape, trees, rock outcroppings, buildings and fields. The troupe will collaborate with native historians, local elders, and foresters to discover the story of the land that will be shared through circus theater, dance & music.
Be welcomed by a Native American Abenaki singer sharing history of place, marvel at an aerialist dancing in the trees alongside the story of the woods, enjoy circus performances that blend aerials, acrobatics, balancing & juggling with storytelling, laughter & entertainment.
Nimble Arts was founded by identical twin aerialists Elsie Smith & Serenity Smith Forchion to create inventive works of theatrical circus. Their own performing resumes include duo swinging trapeze with Cirque du Soleil, aerials and acrobatics with Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey, the Pickle Family Circus and many other traditional through contemporary style circuses around the world including guest performance at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival,. They are Bronze Medal winners at the Albacete Circus Festival, and received a Special Award at the invitational Wuqiao Circus Festival in China for their unique spinning duo trapeze act. Their Nimble Arts ensemble includes performers formerly with Cirque Eloize, Circa, Big Apple Circus, Pilobolus and others. Elsie & Serenity received the Vermont Governor's Walter Cerf Excellence in the Arts Award and the American Circus Educators Excellence in Education Award. www.nimblearts.org
