About Bus Stop

William Inge wrote several well-known plays including Bus Stop, a story of romance at a bus stop diner. The play focuses on Bo, a young cowboy, who wants to marry a nightclub performer named Cherie. Initially, Bo is trying to force Cherie to go back to his ranch with him and get married.

About Bus Stop...

My initial interest in telling this story encircled its geography...a setting that, by William Inge's own detail, could be an easy drive from the very location of this theatre. I assumed that these are people that, as a Midwesterner, I could easily understand, the sort of people that are in genetic alignment with at least my paternal history. But what most stood out to me after a careful rereading of Inge's story had less to do with regionalism and more to do with how gender disparities endure. I realized that this story has a lot to do with the place of women in the world, not just all those decades ago, but now. That is the primary truth that I want to explore amidst all of Inge's many themes. It's a great play that still means something after all of these decades.

Kansas City KS Community College

The Department of Theatre is rooted in the liberal arts tradition.

We offer both an Associate of Arts Degree in Acting and an Associate of General Studies in Theatre Technology and Design.

Our program is one of inclusion and noted for its professional atmosphere, its comprehensive nature, and its close faculty/student working relationship. In the department you'll have the benefits of a small, close-knit program within the environment of a comprehensive, urban community college with courses taught by some of the best professional actors, designers, and technicians in the Kansas City area.

Theatre students are most likely to succeed when they understand completely the theoretical, historical, and practical elements of the theatre.

We have a very active Drama Club that produces a mainstage play in the fall and a One Act festival in the spring.

These productions are fully realized by the members of the drama club and only mentored by the faculty.
