About The Importance of Being Earnest

Although written in the end of the 1800's, The Importance of Being Earnest is every bit the modern romantic comedy, poking fun at people infatuated with others and the ridiculous things they do. It follows the story of a man, Jack Worthing, who creates a fictional brother, Ernest, in order that he can escape to the city from time to time under the pretense of helping his brother through some difficult times. When his friend, Algernon, discovers this ploy, he seizes the opportunity to go visit Jack's adopted niece at the country house under the guise of being the brother Ernest whom none of Jack's affiliates have met in the flesh. As both men become engaged to different women and those women meet to find out they are both engaged to Ernest Worthing, hilarity ensues!
