About Bye Bye Birdie

A 1961 Tony Award winner, Bye Bye Birdie takes its audience back to 1958, and the conscription of Elvis-esque teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie into the US Army.  Before induction day, however, Conrad's managers, Albert Peterson and his long-suffering girlfriend, Rose Alvarez, cook up a contest to see which of Conrad's adoring fans get to leave him with his last kiss.

Birdie features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, and a book by Michael Stewart.  Columbus High's production boasts commanding performances from senior Mason Dahlke as Albert Peterson in his fourth CHS Musical, along with newcomer Sarah Lasso portraying Rose Alvarez.  Sophomore Liz Hoskovec will play Kim McAfee, the lucky girl who gets to plant a kiss on Conrad Birdie, played by fellow sophomore Owen Papstein.  Additional principal roles include Riley Gausman and Sarai Pacheco as Kim's parents Harry and Doris McAfee, Alyvia Williams as Kim's best friend Ursula, Hunter Colegrove as Kim's new boyfriend Hugo Peabody, Olivia Brittenham as Albert's mother, Mae, and making his musical debut as Kim's brother Randolph McAfee is sophomore Eric Martinez!

Performances will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic and tickets can be purchased on this website.  If you have any questions about purchasing tickets, please email Sean McDonald at [email protected].

About Columbus High School Theatre and its Benefactors

Columbus High School performs two theatrical productions each year - a musical and non-musical play.  Columbus also boasts a full technical and scenic construction crew that builds all the scenery seen on stage.

This year, a special thanks goes out to Art by Megan Brewer for her help with scenic painting.  Megan, a 2019 CHS grad, volunteered her time to paint every sign and set piece in this year's production.  To see other works by Megan or to talk to her about commissioning your own custom digital or 2D artwork, please visit https://www.artbymeganbrewer.com/.

CHS Theatre is funded through ticket sales and donations, meaning students do not need to pay a single dime to participate in the program.  If you wish to help support the theatre program at CHS, please visit https://www.cpsanchor.com/news-events/chs-theatre-2020-2021-production.html or send a check made payable to the CPS Foundation to:

Please be sure to note either in the memo of the check or an attached note that your donation is for CHS Theatre.

We thank you for your support of theatre at CHS and look forward to being able to perform for you!
