Julie Wharton
Julie Wharton (Director) A devoted drama queen since age 13, Julie studied Theatre and Dance at Connecticut College. Since then she has directed over 40 school, community and professional productions of plays and musicals, and has taught for 14 years as a full time theatre teacher at the middle and high school levels. New to Asheville, Julie’s local work has included directing Junie B. Jones at ACT, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder at Parkway Playhouse. She is also the full time drama teacher at Koontz Intermediate School and is Co-Founder of Ovation Theatre Arts Collective. Married to a US diplomat, Julie’s teaching, directing and performing credits include work in Chile, Bolivia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Guatemala. While living in Zimbabwe from 2012 – 2015, she conceived and led a directing mentorship program for Zimbabwean theatre artists, an especially rewarding adventure. One of her favorite quotes: “Theatre is life without the boring parts.” (Alfred Hitchcock)
